DEC Mission

Toledo District Education Center exists to facilitate students' acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitudes by ensuring local education needs are met through the development, implementation and monitoring of a district education development plan and through effective school supervision in collaboration with central service areas and regional education councils.

District Education Center Functions

Liaising with Regional Education Councils, Managing Authorities and MoE Central Service Areas in the needs analysis and planning process to develop a district education development plan for improving access, quality and relevance, equity and efficiency at all levels of the education system in the region. ensuring adequate provision of education including physical facilities and resources, the quality of the teachers and teaching, and the quality of educational leadership and management;

 

  1. Collaborate with Regional Education Councils, Managing Authorities and MoE Central Service Areas to monitor and support implementation of district education development plans through regular:
    • reviews of the adequacy of provision of education including physical facilities and resources, the quality of teachers and teaching and the quality of educational leadership and management;
    • school supervision to support and monitor school development and improvement;
    • reviews of the professional development needs of teachers, principals and managers in the district and developing appropriate CPD plans for meeting these needs.
  2. Serve as education resource center in the district.
  3. Support and ensure proper delivery of services to schools, students and to the general public including:
    • Acting as secretariat to the Regional Education Council
    • Management of government pre and primary schools;
    • Gathering and validating of information from schools and the district for:
      1. the Education Management Information System
      2. needs assessment for:
        • Primary School Textbook Programme
        • School Infrastructure and Furniture
        • School Children’s Transportation
    • Distribution of textbooks and other resources in a timely and efficient manner;
    • Manage a local book supply at the District Education Center;
    • Liaising with regional councils and the central MoE regarding licensing of schools and teachers;
    • Conduct logistical work in the organization of Continuous Professional Development for teachers;
    • Assisting with the implementation and monitoring the subsidy programme;
    • Assist with the administration of local and international examinations at the district level;
    • Work in tandem with NEMO and DEMO as it relates to national emergencies—including shelter management (where schools are concerned) coordination and informing about the need to close schools/call of classes as the situation may demand;
    • Represent the MoE on various high school boards and other agencies as necessary; and
    • Collaborate with partners in logistical support for various educational programmes (e.g. Spelling Bee, Quizzes, Festival of Arts)
