Please wait...Although Belize businesses operate on erratic hours, postal services are prompt and reliable. In fact, travelers can expect mail to reach its destination with good speed - airmail takes approximately five days to reach the United States.
To send a letter or postcard home you'll need to find a post office and buy postage. Rates are relatively low, $0.30(USD) for a letter to the United States, and $0.40(USD) (BZ$0.75) for a letter to Europe. Post cards cost $0.15(USD) to send to the United States and $0.20(USD) (BZ$0.40) to Europe. When travelers pick up stamps for letters, many also save some for themselves. The stamps often feature artistic depictions of wildlife, which makes them popular with collectors.
Travelers who would like to send mail to addresses within Central America should remember to include the town, district, country name, and the words "Central America" as parts of the address to ensure that the mail will reach its intended destination. Belize mail is known for its speed and dependability. The express EMS should arrive in the US two to three days and the DSM almost overnight. Rates are very reasonable.
If you're expecting to receive mail on your journey, you can pick it up at the main post office. Mail is kept for at least one month here, but be sure to bring a passport or other ID to pick it up.
